Cape Verde currency converter

The Cape Verdean escudo is pegged to the euro at 110.265, backed by a credit line from the Portuguese government and administered by the Banco de Cabo Verde. Unlike most currencies, that number does not drift from day to day — the conversion itself is settled arithmetic.

So the interesting question is not "what is the rate today". It is "how much of that rate do I actually get to keep". Two things quietly take a cut. The first is remittance pricing: transfer services advertise a low headline fee and then recover their margin inside the exchange rate, which is why comparing advertised fees tells you almost nothing about what lands in your family's account.

The second is the informal tourist rate. Many hotels, restaurants and shops in Sal and Boa Vista accept euros but convert at a round 1 € = 100 CVE instead of 110.265. That rounding is worth roughly 9.3% of everything you spend — and almost no visitor is told about it before arriving.
